Stover Country Park

Stover Country Park Situate app in use

Stover Country Park is a Local Nature Reserve and Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) in Devon, UK. They have recently completed a major conservation project funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund which included a land purchase and the opportunity to retell stories at the site, to increase visitor engagement and accessibility.

The Stover Country Park App

The Stover Country Park App has been developed to enhance the visitor experience for seasoned visitors as well as attracting new audiences to explore the Park. The team plan to regularly develop new content, launching season specific nature trails in the years to come.

Stories featured in the app include the early industrial history of clay cutting, the contribution made by the Women’s Timber Corp and the Canadian Forestry Corp during the First World War, and the subsequent redevelopment of the Stover Estate.

There is a dedicated mindfulness trail which guides visitors around the central lake, encouraging them to engage with the beauty of nature around them, which includes a variety of water fowl, fungi and mixed forest. Visitors can also report wildlife sightings directly from the app.

The map features an overlay image designed by The Way Design which ties into the new interpretation boards and posts which have been installed across the site. The app therefore extends the interpretative strategies adopted at the site into the digital space, providing an opportunity to share detailed information and audio-visual content.

Client Feedback

I am really impressed with the look and easy to use features of the app, and am really thankful to the Situate team’s patience, hard work and enthusiasm at taking me through the process and creating our App.

As a condition of the funding, a 5 year subscription package has been agreed, which includes routine training for Stover staff and the technical maintenance and updating of the app. This provides Stover with a real opportunity to further embed the app into their visitor service offer.
