Old Town Hall

Few people knew that the bowels of the Old Town Hall housed the telephone exchange for the whole of South Yorkshire in World War Two.

Its roof was ablaze on the first night of the blitz and Sheffield firefighter Doug Lightning, whose memories you can hear on the Sheffield Blitz Trail app and in the Sheffield Blitz exhibition, got a round of applause for being part of the team that put the fire out.
