Devonshire Green
Until December 1940, Devonshire Green was a maze of tightly packed terraced houses.
On the first night of the Sheffield Blitz, this neighbourhood was devastated by bombing. Whole rows of homes were destroyed with bombs killing indiscriminately.
After the war, Sheffield City Council chose not to rebuild. Instead, they created the urban park you see today.
As you stand on Devonshire Green, it’s hard to imagine the busy streets and tight-knit community that once filled this ground before the Blitz changed it forever.
