Bramall Lane
Bramall Lane, home of Sheffield United, was caught in the bombing during the first night of the Sheffield Blitz.
High explosives and incendiaries rained down on the ground, tearing through the main stand and leaving the pitch decimated.
German bombing maps later revealed that Bramall Lane had been marked as a target.
The stadium was almost unrecognisable in places – twisted metal, shattered terraces, and goalposts lying in ruins. Yet, like the city itself, Bramall Lane rose from the devastation and remains a symbol of Sheffield’s resilience.
