Hidden Histories is our second Situate app for Bank Street Arts – an arts centre in Sheffield. The first app was to provide visitors with information about the current exhibitions at Bank Street Arts. This second app reveals some of the history of the Bank Street buildings. This project was particularly interesting as it uses the same set of beacons as the first app that we made for them, allowing visitors to select which app they want to use.
With Hidden Histories, as visitors move around the building the app detects the beacons placed in the different rooms and galleries and reveals information about the people that have lived or worked at Bank Street, and the variety of purposes the building has been used for.
The app includes an audio commentary from historian and academic Karen Harvey from the University of Sheffield.
