Art Sheffield 2016 was a citywide contemporary art event. The enigmatic title of the exhibition, “Up, Down, Top, Bottom, Strange and Charm” is taken from the six types of quark: the elementary particles that make up every atom, and the fundamental building blocks of matter.
It took place across various venues in the city, with each artist occupying a single, separate location. Many of these venues were not places you would usually expect to see an art installation – such as the iconic, brutalist and still functional Grade II listed Moore Street electricity substation.
Situate was used to create an app for the event that enabled visitors to easily locate each venue and find out more about the art works and artists. GPS triggering automatically takes the user to details about any venue that is nearby.
